Who won Golden Globes for 2024?

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards are over. They honoured the best in films and TV shows. The event this year was hosted by comedian Jo Koy and aired live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The red carpet pre-show was full of famous people.

There were nine nods for “Barbie” and “Succession” going into the night. That was more than any other movie or TV show. Barbie was up for the award for best musical or comedy motion picture, but “Poor Things” beat it. “Succession” was up for and won the award for best television drama. These actors also won awards for their work in the popular HBO show “Succession”: Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew MacFadyen.

Instead of recognising excellence in editing or photography, the Globes only honour the best in film and TV. This is different from the Oscars, which recognise excellence in both film and TV. They also recognise the best comedies, musicals, and plays separately from the best other types of movies. So, “Oppenheimer” will be up against “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “The Zone of Interest,” and “Past Lives” for the best drama award. “Air,” “American Fiction,” “Poor Things,” “May December,” and “The Holdovers” will all be up for best comedy or musical.

“The Bear” and “Beef” both got more than one Golden Globe for best TV show.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which used to run the Golden Globes, broke up after a string of scandals and hasn’t put on an event since.

Not everyone was happy about the news that came out in the morning. “Origin” by Ava DuVernay and “Ferrari” by Michael Mann were both nominated for awards but didn’t win. “The Colour Purple” didn’t get a nod for best musical or comedy, and the reboot of “Frasier” also didn’t win.
